What is the Mental Health Parity Bill?

The Mental Health Parity Bill S558, passed by the US Senate in 2007  and the Mental Health Parity Bill (HR 1424), passed by the US House of Representatives in March 2008, are bills that would provide require group health plans to cover mental health as well as physical health. Both bills require group health plans to cover mental illness and substance abuse disorders on the same terms and conditions as other illnesses.

How can I get involved?

You can write your state congressmen in support of the Mental Health Parity S558 and HR 1424 bills or you can donate to my 3,600 mile bike ride across the US this summer, 2008.

What charity is the money being donated to?

The money is being donated to the National Allianca for Mental Illness, a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., with chapters in every state in the US.


What politicians are you working with?

I am working with US Senator, Edward Kennedy, (D-Mass). 

What states are you riding through?

I am riding through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

When will you start and end the trip?

I am going to start June 15th, and end on August 4th.
